Portrait and Model Photography

Fort Pierce and Vero points of Photographic interests for the photographer looking for great photography.

Going to Florida forget Miami, forget Fort Lauderdale and you can even forget Key West, Fort Pierce is a laid back small town with a lot of big city things going on and many opportunities for a photographer to take some memorable pictures.  Vero Beach is a little more upscale with some interesting places to visit.  I am typical of the many people who have retired up north and have decided they want something a little different for the rest of their life.  In my case that meant leaving a big city (New York City) and moving to a place with a laid back lifestyle: Fort Pierce and the treasure coast. But the biggest surprise and the best kept secret on the Treasure coast was the summer weather.  Living in New York City for years I always thought that even though it can be brutally hot with all those canyons of tall buildings spewing hot a/c  air over the humid days of summer, at least I was better off than living in Florida. Well I was wrong!  Especially if you are in one of the many areas near the Atlantic ocean and places off of the Indian River.  In the daytime of course it is hot, but it can also be hot up north. Howerver during the evening hours you can sit in a nice riverfront bar and restaurant while enjoying your meal with only an overhead fan cooling you. Try doing that up north where the air comes to a painful stop during the summer months. Myself I like to enjoy an ice cold(and cheap-$1.50 for a mug of domestic beer during happy hours- my best time of the day.) draft beer at the Fort Pierce Tiki Bar while watching the twilight change of light before darkness falls. Other people like to order those overpriced Foo-Foo drinks that only the trendy obsessive can enjoy.  Anyway the next time a two week heat wave hits your area, come on down for a little cool breeze. And by the way(commercial to follow) book your hotel though this site for the best hotel prices and then come down to experience the many savings in restaurants and stores that only the locals get. Compare those prices to a week at the Jersey Shore or the Hamptons.  If you can find me among the many people having a good time at the Fort Pierce Tiki bar: the first cheap draft beer is on me.

With my camera in hand I have traveled to many places in the area and hopefully you can see that the Fort Pierce and Vero areas are great places for the photographer to take some interesting photographs and enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this part of the Treasure Coast.

Some links the photographer coming to Fort Pierce and Vero Beach can use for further information.

  1. Fort Pierce home page: good for information about the many events in the Fort Pierce area. In addition to the many festivals and fishing contests the city also has a Friday fest on the first Friday of the month, a farmers and crafts market every Saturday, bikers night ever Thursday and on the last Friday of the month a classic car show.
  2. Vero home page: Plenty of festivals and their version of Friday fest.
  3. Sunrise Theater Fort Pierce: Usually runs from September to June. Beautiful theater and top notch entertainment.
  4. Fort Pierce Inlet state Park: All around good park professionally run by the state and good place for a photographer at sunset.
  5. Jetty Park in Fort Pierce: Up and coming park to watch. Nice beach to watch wind surfers.
  6. McKee Botanical Gardens in Vero: Open all year but check the web site for future events.
  7. Heathcote Botanical Gardens in Fort Pierce: Beautiful and beautiful and check out those candlelight concerts in the gardens.
  8.  Fort Pierce Marina: If you are coming by boat and need to know about the various fishing tounaments and what sort of facilities the marina offers than you need to check out this site.
  9. Original Tiki bar in Fort Pierce Marina: My favorite Tiki bar in Fort Pierce. Especially during a Friday Feast when it's good friends, good music and cheap draft beers.
  10. Riversidecafe in Vero: If you are in Vero and want to photograph some great sunsets, then head to the riverside cafe or next to the cafe and under the north Vero bridge at twilight. Afterwards party at the best fun bar in the area: good food and some of the best entertainment that you have never heard of.
